Over 15000 vulnerable households in Nyamira County will benefit from the Universal Health Coverage programmes that aim at having them registered with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo on Wednesday launched the Shs 92 Million programme that is part of the big four agenda by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Nyaribo was with County Commissioner Amos Mariba, County Secretary James Ntabo and Health Chief Officer Dr Jack Magara.
Nyaribo said the programme will be of great benefit to the vulnerable residents of Nyamira County including the elderly, persons living with disabilities and orphans.
“We want everyone to access health services, wherever and at any time despite the status of their living, we are aware some of the residents of this county live in poverty whereby they cannot easily access healthcare services, but since the programme has come up, we will ensure we register them so that we can have equity in accessing healthcare in our county,” Nyaribo said.
Nyaribo further noted that the programme will be undertaken in one week since the numbers are many and the programme cannot be done at the same time.
“This programme targets about 700000 residents and we cannot conduct it at a single-phase, that is why we want to do it in three phases, and phase one will begin immediately and be concluded in a week,” said the county boss.
County commissioner Amos Mariba said the national government officials including chiefs, their assistants, deputy county commissioners and assistant county commissioners will oversee the identification exercises so that only the targeted groups can benefit from the programme.
“To reach the targeted groups, our national government officials will help in identifying the groups that should benefit from this programme since we do not want any of the vulnerable groups to be left out,” said Mariba.
