Kisii: Police asked to arrest killers of two teachers

Police last week were accused by leaders and mourners of the slow investigations after the murder of two teachers in Itumbe.

Moruri Mogoa, 60, and his wife Florence, 52, were burnt to death in their house on July 18.

The killers attacked at midnight, closed the door and lit the house.

During the burial of the two last week in Nyabigena Village, South Mugirango Constituency, mourners appealed to the police for justice.

Politicians who attended the burial were MPs Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Simba Arati (Dagoretti North), Ezekiel Machogu (Nyaribari Masaba) and former MPs Manson Oyongo and Omingo Magara.

The leaders assured that they will raise the matter with the DCI boss if no action is taken.

“We are not going to leave this matter. We do not understand why it has taken the police so long to bring the assailants to book,” Machogu said.

“It is saddening that the incident happened about 100 metres from Itumbe police station.”

Osoro said they will work tirelessly to ensure justice prevails.

“I am not going to rest until the issue is amicably addressed. I’m going to raise the matter in the National Assembly,” he said.

Oyongo asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to step in.

“There is no way police can pretend that they do not know those who were involved in committing such a serious crime. They must bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.

According to an autopsy report by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor, the couple was alive when the fire started.

The two were assaulted before the attackers lit the house.
