Following the death of 8 fans and 38 injured among them children aged eight- and 14-years dead at Yaounde Stadium following a stamped where more than 50 thousand fans struggled to enter the stadium to watch a match between host Cameroon and Comoros.
The African Football and world governing body FIFA confederation, have sent their condolences to the affected families.
CAF Federation and Cameroonian government will cater for the hospital expenses and funeral arrangements of the affected families.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe visited the injured supporters in hospital and at the scene outside the Olembe stadium and he was saddened by the turn of events.
The newly constructed Olembe stadium has a capacity of 60,000 it was not meant to accommodate more than 80% following the covid 19 restrictions.
CAF President said “We have a duty to find out what exactly happened and more importantly prevent that the same does not happen again.” He also added saying “when people lose their lives, one must be angry and demand explanations and guarantee that the same will not happen again.”
Sunday’s quarter-final is now set to be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde instead.
