The Inspector General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja has taken his oath of office at the Supreme Court buildings.
This marks the beginning of his tenure as the fifth Inspector General of police under the 2010 Constitution.
He has taken over from the former IG Japhet Koome who resigned in July after an overwhelming wave of protests by Gen Z over the Finance Act 2024.
Kanja was joined by his family during the swearing in ceremony that was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
He was sworn in hours after President William Ruto appointed him to the position.
This is following approval by the National Assembly yesterday as he had earlier on been approved by the Senate after vetting.
Kanja is the immediate former Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police.
