Countdown to the announcement of Bonchari Constituency by-election results has begun as polling clerks begin the vote tallying exercise.
13 candidates had contested in the by-election to elect the next member of parliament after the death of former area MP John Oroo.
The Constituency has 52, 955 voters in 65 polling stations.
The majority of the voters cast their votes early in the morning with an expected voter turnout of about 35 to 40 per cent.
Several leaders and party agents were arrested. ODM party General Secretary Edwin Sifuna and National Treasurer Timothy Bosire were not allowed to get out of their hotel rooms as police kept guard around their hotels.
Three ODM members of the County Assembly were arrested.
Nyanza Region Police Commander Karanja Muiruri said all those who had been arrested will be taken to court. “We have enough evidence to have them prosecuted.”
The results will be announced later in the day from Suneka Baraza Hall.
