Nyamira County Deputy Governor nominee James Gesami’s fate now lies with the MCAs as they are a push and pull with the executive.
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has maintained that he will fight on to give services to the residents of Nyamira despite challenges, especially from the assembly.
Nyaribo has a hurdle from the assembly but has called the MCAs to join hands with him and deliver services for the residents of Nyamira.
“The MCAs are having some misunderstanding especially on the issue of the deputy governor nominee but I will try and convince them to have the deputy governor nominee approved by the county government,” Nyaribo said.
The nomination has taken long to be approved after his choice was rejected by the assembly whereby MCAs had promised Governor Nyaribo they would approve him as soon as possible.
Governor Nyaribo had however said he would forward Gesami’s name again until the nominee is approved by the county assembly.
Interior CS Fred Matiangi in his address last week in Nyamira County called upon the MCAs to give the governor humble time through supporting his ideas and projects for the better of the residents.
“He can make our county grow by the cooperation between the executive and the assembly, it is, therefore, my prayer that we shall support the governor in whatever he does as we move our county forward,” Matiang’i said.
Consequently, during an address to journalists earlier, Governor Nyaribo said if things worsened, he will call upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the county so that residents can go for elections.
“We had agreed with the MCAs and other leaders from Nyamira County that we shall be working together for the better of our county, but it seems they are not willing and if things worsen, I will not have any option than calling the president to dissolve this county and we go for elections,” Nyaribo said.
Gesami was rejected by the County Assembly of Nyamira after his vetting where the MCAs cited a lack of crucial documents from the nominee.
Governor Nyaribo will have now to dig into the issue of clanism politics that have started taking shape where each clan in the county demands to be given a share in the county government.
Interests from the political class within the county will be a major hurdle for Nyaribo to escape before he settles down for the leadership of the county as a new governor. Already, Governor Nyaribo has held leadership meetings with various key stakeholders who are responsible for the implementation and execution of the government agenda.
