Mwatate area of Taita Taveta County on Sunday night was hit by flash floods leaving an expecntant mother and her three children feared dead. The floods were caused by the heavy rains witnessed in the surrounding hills on Sunday, which made the woman’s house to be swept away to a dam in the Teita sisal estate.
According to her family, the seventh months pregnant lady was with her two sons and daughter when the accident occurred.
The operation to find the bodies of the woman and her two children is underway since the body of her 6-yearold son was found at the shore of the dam as reported by the Mwatate County Commissioner Margaret Mwaniki.
In the meantime warned those living near River Voi and areas near dams have been warned by the local leaders to move to hilly areas as the rainy season poses a risk to their lives.
