Helicopter Participates in Man’s Body Search in Mara River

The Mara Elephant project team has started a thorough aerial search for a missing coworker who drowned alongside gasoline truck driver Dennis Mwangi in the Mara river about eight days ago.

Yesterday, deep-sea divers from the Coast made a discovery that is thought to be the body of the driver who drowned, thanks in large part to the support offered by veteran helicopter pilot Marc Groose during air operations over the crocodile and hyena-infested wild river in Narok West.

One half-body, said to be that of the driver, was found yesterday near the banks of Tangulia Camp, 100 kilometers west of the station. It was then transferred to Longisa Mortuary for forensic analysis, but there is reportedly much doubt regarding ownership, with both families making competing claims.

Three men apparently perished on that awful day, but one was lucky enough to survive and is now stable and receiving bed rest at Nairobi’s Kenyatta Hospital.

Locals and game and forest rangers from the Narok County Government make up the ground operation.
