Members of Kisii County Assembly have initiated a process to impeach Kisii County Assembly Speaker David Kombo.
The Assembly is currently in session debating on the motion a week after members agreed to recall two of their representatives from the County Assembly Public Service Board (CAPSB).
The members called on respective Political Parties to replace recalled members; Daniel Apepo and Charles Nyagoto.
Kombo and the entire board are accused of not remitting funds for members’ Life Insurance and Accident Cover.
Last week, Kombo told the media that the Assembly was yet to receive funds for the Insurance cover.
He said for a couple of months now the Assembly leadership has been able to pay salaries for all its members through Bank Loans.
Kombo’s impeachment comes two weeks after the death of Kiamokama Representative Kennedy Mainya. MCAs had accused the speaker and the board of having failed to perform their duties in ensuring that Mainya had a life insurance cover.
Gesusu Ward Representative Benson Ongeri said, “Time is up for the greedy leaders. Corrupt leaders have no space in the modern world.”
The MCAs are demanding to have at least Sh 4.5 million paid to the insurer for the current financial year, 2020/2021.
