Bokiomonge Ward Representative Amos Onderi has been elected as the Kisii County Assembly temporary speaker.
Onderi replaces the embattled speaker David Kombo who has been in the cold for a couple of months owing to wrangles between him and the members in the assembly.
Members reached a consensus late last week while on a retreat in Mombasa. The meeting was attended by the county executive including Governor James Ongwae, Senator Prof Sam Ongeri, Woman Representative Janet Ongera and Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
In November last year members attempted to impeach Kombo’s over his failure and what of the Assembly Public Service Board to remit funds to cater for Members Life Group Insurance Cover and Accident Benefits.
Kombo was later, on temporary measure replaced by Ward Representative Samuel Onuko.
The death of Kiamokama Ward Kennedy Mainya is said to have angered the MCAs after they learnt the Sh 4.5 million for the year 2019/20 had been paid to the insurer.
Members say the assembly will not be left in the hands of a corrupt speaker who is ready to embezzle public funds.
