Kisii Primary has recorded a high number of new admissions as schools reopened for the 2021
academic year.
The school located within the town's Central Business District has a population of 1,100 pupils;
the highest in Kisii County.
The school's headteacher Mrs Grace Nyamweya says the school has enough classrooms but lacks
enough desks to be able to adhere to COVID-19 measures.
"The desks used to accommodate three pupils each but that has been reduced to two. We have an
excess of 300 pupils who will have to find an alternative seating arrangement."
Recently the school received a new one storey building that was funded by the Ministry of
Education.
The school also received 70 desks from the Ministry of Education in December.
Monday morning the school had 80 per cent of the pupils report back with several others from
both private and other public schools seeking new admissions.
Most primary schools in the County opened with majority secondary set to resume as from
Tuesday.
At Kisii High school parents were not allowed beyond the school's main gate. Only students
were allowed in after undergoing registration and Covid-19 screening.
