Lightening claims two in Webuye

A family in Webuye County is mourning the loss of two family members after they were struck by lightning a few meters away from their homestead.

Fransica Wambora aged 21 and Valary Naliaka, 13 were struck by lightning while heading home from a Posho Mill. A 6 month old child they were with miraculously survived the strike.

Neighbors and residents have said that it is abnormal for such an event since the rains were not heavy and thereafter their house was struck thus destroying a part of the window and a big crack on the wall of the house.

They are now terming it as a witchcraft issue and the elders have to cleanse the homestead before and after burial rites are ongoing.

Area assistant Chief Bramwel Kachelo while confirming the death has regretted the demise of the duo and asked parents not to allow their children out when it’s raining.

Area residents and neighbors have said that lightening is normal in the area but never has it killed as it has happened now.

They are calling upon the County Government to help them raise thunder lightening in their homes and nearby schools since the rains have started.
