Police yet to arrest defilement suspects in Kisii County

Women leaders in Kisii County have come out guns blazing over the increasing defilement cases in the area.

Area Woman Representative Janet Ongera says there is a lot of laxity among government officials in arresting the alleged perpetrators.

The county records more than 60 incidents of sexual offences every after three months.

According to Ms Ongera, they have planned various activities across the county to sensitize locals. “We are tired with these acts. It is saddening that culprits are protected by family members.”

Ms Ongera said that it is shameful that some government officials under the provincial administration were yet to take action on some suspects who are still working freely in the villages.

Nominated MCA Josephine Ombati said they will strip naked should the government fail to arrest the stepfather who defiled his daughter a week ago in Kisii.

“Let them not dare us. There is no way the police can fail to arrest such a suspect. We are tired of losing innocent souls. We are losing an entire general to some reckless and satanic men.”

The leaders made the remarks in Kisii visiting the six-year-old at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was admitted on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the County government has completed a rescue centre in Kisii to cater for the GBV victims.

The project will officially be opened next month.
