Retirement age for public officers

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has put to a stop the extension of service of Public Officers beyond the mandatory retirement age.

She noted that public officers who have attained the mandatory age for retirement as provided under the Public Service Commission Act are making numerous appeals to the commission for unjustified extension.

In 2009, the age of retirement was reviewed from 55 years to 60 years. In 2020, the age was set at 65 for persons with disability.

The letter suspends all extension review cases and any existing cased be revoked to enable proper legislation and succession management guidelines be implemented across the public service.
