Schools to receive capitation this week-CS Machogu

The education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has confirmed that school will receive funds by the end of this week.

Responding yesterday to concerns raised by the Members of Parliament over the delay in the release of school funds, CS Machogu confirmed that he has received an assurance from the National Treasury that Treasury will release money to the ministry today for onward disbursement to schools.

“I have received an undertaking from Treasury that our schools will be able to receive the capitation funds by the end of this week,” he assured the MPs.

CS Machogu said that the money was to be released last week but the Treasury encountered some challenges. The assurance has come at a time when school are struggling with high cost of commodities like food for learners. Schools opened a month ago and they have not yet received any capitation from the government.

The CS later advised schools to buy commodities from the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) claiming that food prices in the market are very high.
