Interior CS Fred Matiangi has said the government may declare restrictions inĀ Western and Nyanza counties, a move to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at Kenya School of Government today, Matiangi remarked they are examining the trend and will publicize the way forward.
“I know that we’re up to the task and by the end of today we will have a decision and we would consult and see how to enhance the containment in Nyanza counties,” he declared.
“It may lead to new measure to deal with movement and social activities to manage the spread. Managing Covid-19 has been a hard task but with coordination from the Ministry of Health, we have not been defeated. “
Meanwhile public and private hospitals in Kisumu are straining following the rise of COVID-19 cases.
According to Health executive Boaz Nyunya, the county government is anticipated to enhance testing after receiving 6,000 rapid testing kits from the Ministry of Health.
Currently, Kisumu Central stands as the core of the disease, followed by Kisumu East and Kisumu West.
More than 150 people yesterday were apprehended in Kisumu for not adhering to COVID-19 protocols. The arrests have been made in PSVs, bars and restaurants
