The Ministry of Education will conduct random tests on students suspected to be using illegal
drug substances.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha says action will be taken on all those who will
test positive to the usage of such drugs.
Speaking today at St.Josephs Nyabururu primary in Kisii, Magoha said they are going to work
with Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in preparing data on all students involved in
criminal activities.
"We will profile them depending on the outcome of their court cases. The data will affect their
future. They should never go unpunished."
The CS ordered school managements to confiscate sanitisers from students saying most of them
were carrying alcoholic drinks.
He noted in one of the fire incidents, students burnt their school because they had been denied a
chance to watch ‘Maria’ a program in one of the TV stations.
He said those students involved in the destruction of property in schools will face it alone and
the cost will go to the parents.
The ministry will send a circular to all headteachers and school principals not to readmit students
who are running from schools they burnt.
Further, the CS noted the increasing number of early pregnancies saying perpetrators will be
arrested. "The ministry will be following up on such cases. Victims must give names of all those
perpetrators."
Every county will be required to give data of all early pregnancies and also the perpetrators and
send them to the ministry.
