Ten suspected arsonists detained for burning churches in Kisii

Ten suspects accused of having set ablaze five churches in Kisii's Otamba area will spend 14
days in police custody.
Kisii Court Senior Resident Magistrate Stephen Onjoro directed that the suspects be held at Kisii
Central Police station pending further investigations.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday night following a police raid in the area a week after five
churches and two shops were burnt.
Criminal Investigation officers camped in the area on Monday night in search of the criminals.
By 5 am on Tuesday 10 suspects had been nabbed.
Kisii County Commander Jebel Munene had promised speedy investigations into the incident.
"We will do everything possible to ensure that we get into the root cause of the recent fires."
Munene said the burning of the churches was a clear indication that some youths can be used to
cause destruction after being paid small monies.
Investigating officers are pursuing possible leads to arrest the mastermind in the fires that will
see the faithful in the affected churches dig deep into their pockets to raise funds for the
renovations.
Among the churches affected include; Otamba Catholic, a nearby SDA Church, PAG,
Worldwide Gospel and Legion Maria.
