Athletics Kenya officials are happy with the progress at Gusii Stadium

Athletics Kenya (AK ) are happy with the progress at Gusii Stadium where a tartan track is being laid.

Technical officers from Athletics Kenya led by John Kimeto who also an executive committee member of AK together with George Kariuki were at the stadium last week.

“We came here courtesy of Sports Fund to check on the progress of the stadium. Sports Fund is keen to support the ongoing works so that this stadium meets international standards,” said Kimeto.

The committee will give a detailed report to Kisii Governor James Ongwae and the Sports Fund later this week.

Kariuki added that the track installation will be complete once the football pitch is done.

“The stadium is taking shape and so far 20 per cent of the works has been done. Once the football pitch is redone, the contractor will start laying the tartan,” said Kariuki.

Some of the recommendations that will be made in the report to Governor James Ongwae and Sports Fund is the establishment of a warm-up track and changing rooms for the athletes.

The President also ordered the stadium renamed after former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae who passed away early this year.
