Alex Murdaugh, the prominent South Carolina attorney has resigned.
Murdaugh who was shot on Saturday resigned from his law firm to begin rehabilitation.
This comes barely three months after he found his wife and son shot dead outside the family’s home.
A statement provided through Murdaugh’s attorney, Dick Harpootlian, read: “The murders of my wife and son have caused an incredibly difficult time in my life. I have made a lot of decisions that I’m truly remorseful about. I’m resigning from my law firm and in-flowing rehab after a long battle that has been intensified by these murders. I am immensely sorry to everyone I’ve hurt including my family, friends and colleagues. I ask for prayers as I rehabilitate myself and my relationships.”
The statement has surfaced days after Murdaugh called 911 to report being shot on a road in Hampton County, South Carolina.
Murdaugh was changing a tyre when he got shot.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) spokesperson Tommy Crosby confirmed that Murdaugh later received medication following the incident.
“Murdaugh was taken to a hospital in Savannah, Georgia, where he was treated for a “superficial gunshot wound to the head.”
Crosby, however, added that no arrests were made.
