Former France and PSG defender dies after 39 years in a coma

The football world is mourning the death of former France and Paris Saint-Germain defender Jean-Pierre Adams.

Adams has died at the age of 73.

He fell into a coma in 1982 following a botched knee operation, but never regained consciousness after an error with his supply of anaesthetic.

This resulted in cardiac arrest and brain damage of the player.

Adams left the hospital after 15 months, after which he was cared for by his wife Bernadette.

He spent the last 39 years in a coma before dying at the Nimes University Hospital.

The defender made 145 appearances for Nice and 84 for Nimes.

He also played for Paris-Saint Germain.
