The CS of the Interior Fred Matiang’I has refuted claims that he is meddling with the IEBC’s mandate for the 2022 elections.
He confirmed that he will not quit as the Deputy President’s allies have asked.
CS Matiang’I told them not to divert his attention away from his responsibility to Kenyans.
The Interior CS defended CS Joe Mucheru, saying that the purpose of two ministries is to establish an environment that allows the electoral agency to carry out its tasks in accordance with their mandate.
In his speech, he stated that he will not be intimidated and that those who promote political intolerance will face a zero-tolerance approach.
He reassured Kenyans that the commission will be supported by security.
He advised government officials to concentrate on their responsibilities.
He also directed the county commissioner and other grassroots leaders to make the safety of female candidates in upcoming elections a top priority.
As asked by the Interior CS, the county commissioners and national government officials would build a database of all-female hopefuls and sketch out their security needs.
