A fisherman from Wadiang’a Beach in Homa Bay County lost his life yesterday evening after drowning in Lake Victoria.
The 42-year-old fisherman identified as Daniel Ochieng Okumu died during a fishing activity in Lake Victoria.
He was accompanied by three of his colleagues.
According to Suba Sub-County Beach Management Unit chairperson William Onditi, Okumu lost balance while inside the boat.
He drowned following heavy winds that prevailed in the lake.
Onditi added that the fishermen’s boat engine had a mechanical breakdown and stopped.
The deceased accidentally fell into the lake while trying to restart the engine.
