Former Samburu Senator Sammy Leshore replaces Isaac Mwaura in Senate

Sammy Leshore has been gazetted as Isaac Mwaura’s replacement in the Senate.

Leshore who is the former senator to Samburu takes over as a Jubilee Party-nominated Senator according to a gazette notice by IEBC.

“The deleted nominee stands disqualified as the member to the Senate representing persons with disabilities,” read part of the notice by Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Mwaura was expelled from the party for disloyalty, a change sealed by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

He, however, acquired a court order preventing Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka from announcing his seat vacant until his appeal is resolved.

The hearing is set for May 24.

Meanwhile, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, on February 8 remarked that the National Management Committee (NMC) had a sit-down and considered a report filed by the party’s disciplinary team.

“The NMC in exercising its mandate provided or under article 7 (2a) of the party’s constitution and relying on other enabling provisions of the party law has expelled the following senators.”

Members who were eliminated include nominated Senators: Isaac Mwaura, Seneta Mary Yiane, Waqo Naomi Jilo, Omanga Millicent, Prengei Victor, Iman Dekow and Gona Christine Zawadi.

The declaration acknowledged the dismissal as instant but added that the officials still standby their right to file a petition.
