Raila: I cannot shake Ruto’s hand

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga has slammed President Ruto for claiming he is angling for a share of government positions.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Ekerubo in Nyamira County, the former Prime Minister said he will not shake President Ruto’s hand because it will tarnish his image. He said that the Ruto government is riddled with scandal and corruption.

“I cannot shake Ruto’s hand. I do not want to because it will tarnish my image. His government is riddled with scandals and corruption. You have stolen, but know that Kenya does not belong to you alone. It belongs to all of us,” Mr. Odinga said.

The Azimio leader condemned the government for imposing heavy taxation on Kenyans. He said that everything is being taxed in Kenya but the work of the taxes cannot be seen. He lamented that the taxes should be used to benefit Kenyans.

“Everything is heavily taxed day and night. But where are you taking the taxes? The taxes should be used judiciously to build schools, buy drugs and other things that can benefit Kenyans,” Mr. Odinga said.

He pointed out that some communities are being left out of government appointments because they did not support the Kenya Kwanza government.

Mr. Odinga said that Kenya is a democratic country and all regions must be included in the government for them to feel they are part of this nation.

Mr. Raila was accompanied by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, MP Clive Gisairo, Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Aburi and other leaders from Gusii land.

The Azimio leader maintained that the Azimio team is ready for talks but they do not want intimidation from the Kenya Kwanza government. He said that the team and many Kenyans are patient enough for the talks if only the Kenya Kwanza side is sincere.

Both President Ruto and Mr. Odinga have said they do not want a handshake.
