Gunmen have invaded a boarding school in Niger State in northern Nigeria yesterday, kidnapping children and several teachers.
“One of the staff and some of the students managed to escape. The staff confirmed that one student had been shot” said an official.
The kidnappers were described as heavily armed and dressed in military uniform.
The boarding school which has close to 1000 students is still doing a headcount to know the exact number of abducted students.
“A count is underway to establish the exact number of students kidnapped. We hope that all those who have fled the school will come back for the count,” said a security source.
The Nigerian government has initiated a search and rescue operation.
