Gusii leaders launch BBI signature collection drive

Gusii leaders demand more constituencies in the area as they launch the Building Bridges Initiative bill signatures collection exercise.

In a meeting to launch the signature collection exercise, the leaders including Kisii Governor James Ongwae, area Senator Prof Sam Ongeri and MPs Richard Onyonka, Ben Momanyi and Richard Tongi promised to rally locals to append their signatures.

The leaders said Kisii and Kuria area need one extra Constituency each to ease the burden of having to share the little resources available against a large population density.

According to Ongwae the shared and increased revenues to the Counties will translate to more development in Counties.

“There is both cultural, economic, religious and political inclusivity in the BBI report. This is a document we should support in totality.”

Trainee youth will form part of the institutional framework at the grassroots. “They will work with all the groups in the Community.”

Prof Ongeri says he is willing to carry out public forums to achieve the intended objective; collect enough signatures.

The signature collection exercise will be led Wycliffe Oparanya in the Western region, Luo Nyanza to be led by Prof Anyang Nyongo while Kisii Governor James Ongwae will lead Gusii region.

Kisii Woman Representatives Janet Ongera will play a critical role as the Chief Executive BBI team.

The BBI signature collection exercise is being spearheaded by the Provincial Administrators and Sub County and Ward Administrators in the devolved units.
