The head of Mali’s junta is expected to be sworn in today as the country’s new President.
Last week, Colonel Assimi Goita declared himself President, days after removing transitional leader Bah Ndaw from power.
He accused Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane of appointing a new cabinet without consulting him.
Last year in August Colonel Goita lead a group of soldiers to remove then President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita. This was after weeks of street protests and frustration by frontline troops.
Colonel Goita has vowed to hold elections according to the old schedule.
Mali has since been suspended by the African Union (AU) and regional bloc (Economic Community of West African States) ECOWAS.
