Kisii based police officer Constable Benson Maubi has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
Maubi appeared before Kisii High Court Judge Antony Ndung’u through virtual proceedings.
The accused was presented before the court and charged with the murder of a 28-year-old
Bramuwell Chikunza.
The accused is alleged to have assaulted the deceased at Kisii Central police station.
The victim succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Nyanchwa Mission Hospital
within Kisii town two weeks ago.
The deceased's family is being represented in court by LSK South Nyanza Chairman Wilkins
Onchoki.
The court will address bond and bail matters on Friday morning.
Chukunza will be buried tomorrow at his Bungoma home.
Before the assault incident, the deceased had been arrested together with his friend; Wycliffe
Omondi on the night of December 19, 2020 and was placed under police custody.
Detectives from the Internal Affairs Unit Headquarters opened an investigation file and
submitted the same to the DPP.
