A man has been apprehended in Kizingitini Island, Lamu East after he was suspected of sodomising a 15-year-old boy.
Mohamed Kale, 34, was arrested at his home yesterday after suspicious neighbours tipped the police.
This came after they heard strange sounds coming from Kale’s house.
The minor, a primary school pupil, who had been reported missing by his family on August 9, had suffered weeklong abuse.
The boy was unable to walk when he was rescued.
Kale is suspected to have seized the minor, locked him up and sexually abused him for a week.
Lamu Central Sub-County Police Commander Nyawa Murinzi confirmed the minor had been sodomised according to medical tests.
“He had been reported missing by his family. There is no doubt that he was sexually abused. We are holding the suspect. We shall produce him in court soon,” Murinzi said.
Murinzi called on residents to fight all forms of child abuse.
He urged them to report missing persons as soon as possible to facilitate fast recovery.
“It’s unfortunate that this boy has been held for seven long days. He is tortured psychologically by the sexual abuse. We can stop this by being vigilant of the paedophiles around us,” he said.
