Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has said that the Madaraka Day celebrations to be held in Kisumu on 1st June will be an invite-only event.
This is because Kisumu County will be following COVID-19 preventive measures during the event and only 3000 guests will be allowed into the 30,000 Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium.
“Those invited people will come with their cards and their seats are designated with proper social distancing,” said Nyong’o.
He assured guests that the county has followed all guidelines and they should not worry about the Indian variant that has been detected in the county.
“Our departments of health will be on standby, anybody with no mask will be given one, there will be enough sanitisers and hand washing areas and therefore our guests will receive maximum protection from COVID-19,” he added.
Kenyans will be able to view the Madaraka Day celebrations from live TV screens that will be placed around Kisumu and local television stations will beam the event to homes around the country.
