Malawian President to visit Kenya ahead of Mashujaa day

Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to fly to Kenya tomorrow ahead of Mashujaa day.

Chakwera will be in the company of First Lady Monica for a three-day State visit.

In a statement, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said, Chakwera will be the chief guest at this year’s Mashujaa Day commemorations.

The celebrations will be held at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County on Wednesday.

On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially welcome Chakwera and his delegation at State House.

Mashujaa Day, previously identified as Kenyatta Day, is an annual public holiday celebrated on 20 October in honour of individuals who enabled Kenya to achieve its independence.

Since independence, the celebrations have been held at the Kenya Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

However, in the past seven years, they have been hosted on a rotation basis by different counties following the adoption of a fresh policy by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The move enhances national integration and peace.

Last year, the 11th annual Mashujaa Day celebrations were held at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
