Man, 29, commits suicide in Umoja Estate after marriage dispute

A man has killed himself by drinking poison in Umoja Estate after his wife walked out on him.

According to a police report, the man’s wife quit their marriage after an argument.

The man later left a text for his estranged wife, expressing his anger.

The woman in turn tried to reach him via call, but her efforts were futile.

She returned to the house the next day accompanied by her brother-in-law only to find the deceased on the bed lifeless.

They immediately alerted the police about the occurrence.

The officers confirmed that the man had taken an unidentified poison.

According to Buruburu police boss Kamau Ngugi, they have launched investigations into the incident.

The body was taken to a mortuary.

Meanwhile, despite September being recognized annually as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the number of suicide cases have continued to rise in the recent past.

According to police data released on June 27 this year, at least 483 people had committed suicide in just three months, with Kiambu topping the list of counties with the highest numbers.

Reacting to the report, the DCI called on the government to commission research to determine the major cause of the worrying trend.
