Child caregivers abdicating their roles have been put on notice by the Nyamira County Commissioner, Amos Mariba.
Mariba noted that some parents were either neglecting their children or subjecting them to child labour which he said was against the freedom and rights of a child.
The County Commissioner said that a child deserved best at a young age and anybody flouting their rights will face the law.
He also urged the public to report any cases of child trafficking and negligence in their neighbourhoods.
“The public should also join hands with the government to report any case of child labour of trafficking in their areas so that we have responsible future citizens, and also have responsible parents and guardians “, said Mariba.
Nyamira Police County Commander Ms Catherine Mugwe noted that cases of defilement were on the rise in the county and warned those who settle them out of court.
“I want to ask parents of the children who have been defiled to make an effort and report the cases to the law enforcers so that justice is served to the affected and that who does the criminal act.
I also request that once they report the incidents, they should be ready to present themselves when needed as witnesses so as the law takes its course. The government provides for witness protection and there should be no cause for alarm”, added Mugwe.
