A matatu ferrying an unknown number of passengers travelling along the Arabic-Mandera highway ran over an improvised explosive devise killing 10 of the passengers.
Leaving another 8 seriously injured according to witness reports the number of deaths are most likely to rise.
North Eastern regional commander George Seda said despite no arrests have been made, they have information that the Somali militant group Al-shaabab orchestrated the attack only 8kilometres away from Mandera and close enough the border where they can easily sneak back into Somali
Early last week France, USA and Denmark issued a security alert over possible spray of terror attacks targeting foreigners but the Kenyan government denied having any knowledge and that they had fastened the security along the northern corridor.
