Trump Impeached for a second time

The United States House of Representatives on Wednesday Impeached President Donald Trump
for a second time for "incitement of insurrection” for last week’s Capitol riot.
Trump's trial in the Senate will not happen until after Joe Biden, a Democrat, is inaugurated as
the new US president next week on Wednesday.
“We know that the President of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion
against our common country,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on the House floor ahead of the
vote. “He must go. He is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love.”
"Make no mistake, there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate; there will be a
vote on convicting the president for high crimes and misdemeanours; and if the president is
convicted, there will be a vote on barring him from running again, "Senator Schumer said in a
statement.
The Democratic-controlled House voted 232 to 197 after two hours of impassioned debate as
armed National Guard troops kept watch inside and outside the Capitol.
After the House vote, Trump released a video statement calling for calm as the threat of new
riots — which Trump said he’d been briefed on by the Secret Service — casts a pall over
Washington. But he did not mention the historic impeachment that had occurred a few hours
earlier.
In a statement released yesterday, the President-elect Joe Biden noted that “it was a bipartisan
vote cast by members who followed the Constitution and their conscience.”
“I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional
responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation,”
added Biden.
