TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia says Kenya has lost 90 teachers to COVID -19 in the last year.
Ms Macharia was speaking today at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to mark World Teachers’ Day.
She says the teaching profession is dynamic and calls on teachers to be role models, counsellors and caregivers.
“Teachers play a prominent role in influencing and inspiring learners. After parents, teachers take responsibility for moulding a child’s character at every step. It is our most duty to convey our wishes to teachers today in recognition of their undeterred efforts.” said Ms Macharia
She added that teachers had failed to support the government’s move or efforts to recover the lost academic time arising from the school closure occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
