Fan given a 14-week jail sentence over racist social media comment

An England fan who posted racist comments on social media and blamed black England players for losing to Italy in Euro 2020 final penalty shootout has been given a 14-week jail sentence.

He has also been suspended for 18 months with 30 days rehabilitation to work on racism and diversity.

Scott McCluskey, 43, blamed England’s defeat on three black players.

He wrote on his social media account, ‘’Unlucky England. Sack them three monkeys.’’

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their penalties and were targeted with racist abuse on social media.

Before and during the Euro 2020 tournament, the England players knelt before each of their matches in a display of unity in the fight against racism and inequality.

That was an act that caused anger among sections of the England fanbase, with some supporters choosing to boo as the players knelt.
