Gusii leaders have joined the rest of the country in mourning and condoling with the family of
the late Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama.
Nyagarama died Thursday night at a Nairobi hospital after a two week battle with complications
arising from COVID-19.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae whom he schooled with at Kisii High school said Nyagarama has
left a mark in the county.
"We have lost a great servant. A man who served his people with dignity. He was never engaged
in sideshows and had a straight talk."
Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri said the deceased was selfless, humble and loving person and
these endeared him to people in his long career at KTDA and Nyamira County Government.
"He leaves behind a huge legacy of development as the first governor of Nyamira County. My
prayers and thoughts are with his family and the people of Gusii in this moment of grief," said
Prof Ongeri.
Chief Justice David Maraga said; "Coming from the same village, I have known him for many
years." The people of Nyamira have lost a great leader."
Maraga last shared a platform with the deceased only a month ago when they together attended
to launch of Borabu Law Courts in Nyamira.
Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ongera says the loss is a big blow to the entire Gusii
Community. "Mzee John was a gentleman who always championed for the unity of our people.
He will forever be missed for his humility and wise counsel."
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi described Nyagarama as a diligent man who believed in devolved
systems.
"For eight years, he has strived to establish a strong foundation of devolution. He was a jovial
and empathetic man who cherished friendship.& quot;
