Euro 2020 champions Italy made a poor return to action after they managed a 1-1 draw against Bulgaria in the 2022 World Cup qualifier.
Federico Chiesa gave Italy a deserved 16th-minute lead and just before the break, Atanas Iliev levelled to make a draw till the final whistle.
Bulgaria who are ranked 75th in the world managed to hold the Euro 2020 champions until the end with their goalkeeper Georgi Georgiev making a lot of saves.
But still, Italy extended their non-losing streak to 35 games, equaling a record set by Spain and Brazil.
Italy still leads the group with 10 points, four points ahead of Switzerland.
