Kabianga University in Kericho County has been closed until further notice after students took to the streets to riot due to the increment of fees.
The decision to close the institution has been declared today after a special council meeting.
An internal memo signed by the University Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics and Student Affairs, Prof. Elijah Omwenga, was later issued, ordering the student to vacate the institution instantly.
So far, the groups affected are 2nd-year students (2020/2021), 3rd-year students (2019/2020), 3rd-year students (2018/2019) and 4th-year students (2017/2018).
This comes barely two months after the Dedan Kimathi University main campus in Nyeri was closed down for the same reason.
Footage captured had displayed students demonstrating outside the institution as others were blocking the road heading to the university.
The university later, through its senate, suspended all in-person learning following the disturbance.
