Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will vie for the presidential seat in the 2027 General Election saying he will not allow himself to surrender for other candidates.
Kalonzo said he is optimistic that his Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party co-principals will back him in the race to statehouse. He noted that missing out on the ballot will imply retirement from politics.
“Giving up my presidential ambitions will actually mean I go home. We are at the tail-end of a process which should deliver this country. Azimio will give (President William) Ruto a strong candidate this time round.”
The leader expressed his readiness to be on the ballot, though not making it clear whether Azimio leader Raila Odinga will step down to back him.
He said that like he was ready in 2002, he is also ready for the coming elections said that the time has come for Kenyans to recognize a leader they have always rejected.
“If I was ready in 2002, 2013 why do you think I will not be ready in 2027? The right time has come for this country to recognize a leader they have always rejected. I have played the team…I have selflessly supported others. If the country is ready for it, I will go for it,” he said in an interview with NTV.
Kalonzo said that even President Ruto now recognizes him as a potential competitor in the coming elections. He added the stars have aligned and the whole country is now saying it.
He claimed that he believes in consultations and that, early preparations are the best. According to him, setting the eyes on the 2027 seat this early will back him enough.
He, however, said that the Azimio team is yet to reveal their candidate and no matter what, he will go the same way with Raila Odinga unless some devil intervenes.
He at the same time urged other leaders from the opposition to rally behind him for a common goal.
