Police arrest three robbery suspects in Mathare

Three robbery suspects were on Wednesday apprehended in Mathare by police on patrol.

According to a DCI report, the suspects attacked and robbed a passerby in Mathare’s Bluegum area during the day.

“The suspects Elijah Githii, Jackson Githui and Kennedy Kinyanjui had waylaid passersby in Mathare’s Blue Gum area just behind Mathare mental hospital and were robbing them of their money, mobile phones and other valuables,” DCI said.

Pangani police officers who were on foot patrol got information about the robberies and instantly rushed to the scene where the thugs were robbing a middle-aged man.

The three jumped on their getaway motorbike and sped off when they noticed the police approaching.

A police corporal shot twice in the air and the thugs fell from the motorcycle out of fear as their rider lost control.

“Before they could come to terms with what had befallen them, curious onlookers including those who had been robbed earlier regrouped and descended on the trio with blows and kicks,” DCI stated.

The police intervened and arrested the suspects.

They recovered an imitation of a firearm capable of firing, three mobile phones and Shs 13,900.

The robbers getaway motorbike registration number KMFJ 165A was also seized.

Prior investigations imply that the thugs travelled from Thika town to carry out the robberies in city estates.

The thugs are in custody facing robbery with violence charges.
