Police officers linked to the death of Kianjokoma brothers charged with murder

Six police officers linked to the death of the Kianjokoma brothers in Embu County have been charged with two counts of murder each.

The six; Benson Mbuthia, Consolota Kariuki, Nicholas Cheruiyot, Martin Wanyama, Lilian Cherono and James Mwanikiwere pleaded not guilty before justice Daniel Ogembo.

Initially, the accused wanted an investigation conducted before any legal action was taken against them.

However, the prosecution turned down their application.

The prosecution today gave a directive to the court to have the four male officers be remanded at Industrial Area and the females at Lang’ata Women’s Prison awaiting any application before the court.

Lawyer Danstan Omari asked the court to grant the accused officers bail.

The hearing of the bail application will be held in three weeks.

Last week, the suspects petitioned for the bodies of the two slain brothers; Benson and Emmanuel Ndwiga to be exhumed.

The state denied granting them the application as the family had already undergone a tough moment losing the two brothers at once.

The six were later taken to Mathare Hospital for mental assessment.
