Prof Magoha Calls for Consultations in Plans to have University Education Fees Increased

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has called for consultation in plans to increase university fees.

Prof Magoha says parliament had discussed on the increase but such a decision will be tabled before the executive before being implemented.

“This will be a holistic consensus. It is a fact that we have the Covid-19 pandemic and earning per household has reduced. We will not just decide on the fee structure overnight.”

Speaking at Nyabururu Girls National School today, the CS says the government will not allow anything that will destabilize university education. Major stakeholders will be involved in the consultations which will also take into account the involvement of students themselves

“I qualify to say something about university education in this country. It is reasonable to consider to revise university fees. There is an executive arm of government to make a decision.”

Magoha was on a visit to various schools to inspect the distribution of desks to schools.

The CS added, that the government has started paying substantial payment to all those who have delivered in Machakos and Nairobi. The Ministry is processing payments for Kirinyanga, Makueni and Kisii.

“We are grateful to the artisans for the good work they have done. We will pay in time.”
