Provincial Administration, police told to keep off Bonchari campaigns

The ODM party Kisii branch officials have called on government officials in the Ministry of Interior to keep off Bonchari by-election campaigns.

Led by the constituency youth representative Denis Orioki they said police had mastered the art of harassing and intimidating party supporters.

“We are aware of the plot to continue arresting our supporters. We need the party Leader Raila Odinga to intervene. Police and chiefs have been given express orders to arrest opponents of the Jubilee Candidate.”

Orioki called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi to stop his officers who he said were acting in bad faith.

Another youth leader Vincent Oyaro said the region has enjoyed peace for years but a few individuals want to take advantage of the situation to cause chaos.

“We will not be fooled. This is a democratic process. Those who have fishy plans will be dealt with responsibly.”

15 Candidates were cleared by IEBC to vie in the by-election. The seat was left vacant after the death of John Oroo Oyioka.

Curtains in the campaigns will come down on May 16.
