Several workers have been trapped in a construction site after the new multi-million Nyamira county assembly block came crumbling down.
Residents and traders are in the process of evacuating the construction workers who have been trapped in the debris.
Police officers had a difficult time trying to get residents away from the building.
Three of the workers have been evacuated and rushed to Nyamira County Referral Hospital for treatment.
According to the residents who were first responders on the scene, the construction was ongoing at the time the building collapsed.
The five-storey building had already two floors done and the third floor was in its final stages when the building came down.
The number of those who were trapped in the building however is not clear.
Red Cross officials, traders and residents were trying to evacuate the workers who had been trapped in the building.
However, the heavy evening downpour almost rendered evacuation exercise impossible before night approached and the exercise would not proceed.
