Three suspected kidnappers who demanded a Shs 300,000 ransom apprehended by police

Three suspects have been arrested in Nairobi for reportedly kidnapping a 23-year-old man and demanding  Shs 300,000 ransom.

The suspects were seized by Githurai-based investigators after a raid on a single-roomed residence where they were holding the victim, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to the DCI, the victim travelled from Mwingi East to Githurai to meet a couple from the same rural region, only to find the woman of the house alone, which police suspected was a set-up.

“Within no time, the husband stormed in accompanied by three other men, who landed on the young man with blows and kicks on allegation of having a romantic affair with the wife,” said detectives.

The suspects frisked the victim and robbed him of Shs 5,000 before throwing him out of the house and whisking him away to an unoccupied room, where they subsequently forced him to contact his relatives with ransom demands, according to the investigating agency.

The victim was compelled to call his family members to obtain the Shs 300,000 ransom, with the fear of terrible consequences if they did not cooperate, according to the agency.

Detectives initiated an operation to save the 23-year-old after receiving a tip from the victim’s father.

“The victim who had been stripped naked and injured on the face was rescued to safety, as the three were taken to custody,” the DCI said.
