Two men have been apprehended in Lamu after they allegedly assaulted a mentally handicapped woman.
The two, Shadrack Murimi Maina, 45, and Hiribae Kokane, 43, posed as good samaritans only to later sexually assault the woman in an abandoned house in the Sina Mbio area.
According to a police report, the suspects were in the company of a Nyumba Kumi elder Samuel Ngumi on patrol when they came across a middle-aged woman preparing tea in a crime-prone area.
“She had a loaf of bread. Fearing for her safety, Ngumi told the two men to watch over her as he went to seek help.”
Police confirmed that Ngumi was shocked when he came back and caught Murimi sexually assaulting the woman.
Kokane had already run away from the scene after committing the heinous act.
Ngumi rescued the woman with the help of residents.
He alerted the police leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
They’ll face rape charges once investigations conclude.
Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the nearby Hindi Magogoni Dispensary for medical attention.
