Abdulkadir Haji has been sworn in as the new Senator for Garissa County today morning.
He now takes over from his father Yusuf Haji who passed away in February.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissions had set up a by-election to run on May 18 2021. Abdulkadir Haji was to run under a Jubilee Party ticket.
With the backing of the community and political heavyweights such as Governor Ali Bunow Korane and Aden Duale, he got the seat unopposed.
“Wale wengine ambao pia wanataka hii kiti ni watoto wetu…tutazungumza nao tuone ya kwamba huyu kijana wetu ameingia kwa hiyo kiti unopposed,” said Governor Korane.
In a Gazette Notice dated April 6, 2021, he was declared the duly elected Senator of Garissa County after no other candidate declared an interest in the seat.
